Democratic Candidates on Education

2020 Democratic presidential candidates poked at education during the last debate. Julian Castro basically says that schools are segregated because neighborhoods are segregated. Bernie Sanders pointed out that the United Sates has "one of the world’s highest child poverty rates." Andrew Yang says what most of us think. He says, “Let me be clear. I am pro-good school." California Senator, Kamila Harris, mentions how race is a factor in a child's educational career. She states,  “If a black child has a black teacher before the end of third grade, they’re 13 percent more likely to go to college. If that child has had two black teachers before the end of third grade, they’re 32 percent more likely to go to college.” Former vice president, Joe Biden, brings up how slavery has affected the education system. He says, “A kid coming from a very poor school, a very poor background, will hear 4 million words fewer spoken by the time they get there.” The author of the article, Valerie Strauss, does mention how the democratic candidates were trying to avoid the topic. She says, "Finally, after three debates among Democratic presidential candidates with scarcely a question about education, a moderator, Linsey Davis of ABC News, raised the issue Thursday night. She asked some good questions — even if some candidates tried to skirt them or stated as fact things that may not, in fact, be true."
